Question 3: Can I observe a class?
We don't have open observation classes right now, except for enrolled students who may require adjustments, in which case a parent can attend. However, you're more than welcome to visit the studio when classes are not in session, explore the space, and ask any questions you have.
Question 4: Do you offer adult classes?
Currently, we do not offer classes specifically tailored for adults.
Question 5: Can I still register my child now when the fall/spring/summer term has already started?
Absolutely! You can enroll your child at any time during the year, as long as we have available spots. Tuition fees will be adjusted accordingly.
Question 6: Is there a family discount?
5% Younger Sibling Discount: When two or more children from the same family enroll, younger siblings receive a 5% discount on half-year monthly installment plans only. Please note that full-year and half-year tuition plans paid in full at registration are already discounted (3% or 5%) and do not qualify for this discount. This discount cannot be applied to any camps. No exceptions will be made.
Question 7: Do you offer makeup classes?
Absolutely! We offer one make-up class per month, provided that written advance notice is given via email or through our make-up request form before the absence occurs. The make-up class must be fulfilled within the same month. No exceptions.
Note: Portfolio Prep students are allowed up to two make-up classes per month due to their twice-weekly class requirement.
Question 8: Can your program assist with my teen's art college application portfolio?
Yes, absolutely! We are proud to have seen so many successes over the past two decades.
With our guidance and the hard work of our talented young artists, we have seen them accepted to both prestigious art colleges and top tier universities. Our director/teacher has over 20 years of experience and is dedicated to helping students craft a portfolio that reflects the student's creativity and skills. The portfolio prep program is designed for students with art college aspirations as well as students looking to enhance their college applications. One of many remarkable examples is a student who, guided by Mrs. Shineh, completed his art portfolio for both AP art and college admission. He secured admission to the Maryland Institute College of Art, becoming the top scholarship recipient. His entire AP art series is featured as Sample 3 on the Official College Board website - collegeboard.org.
Question 9: The website mentions that the Portfolio Prep program requires an invitation for enrollment. What does this "invitation" mean, and are there specific requirements I need to meet to attend?
In our portfolio classes, we encourage students to be proficient in both traditional dry and wet mediums, allowing them to express themselves effectively and convey their inner voices and passions through their artwork. Mastering foundational skills prepares students to advance to the next level, similar to other activities/disciplines.
We recommend initial enrollment in our Advanced Fine Arts program prior to portfolio prep consideration. This provides a solid foundation and a smooth transition to the Portfolio Prep program when the young artist feels ready. Please feel free to bring recent artworks for review to assess your child's readiness. We are more than happy to provide guidance on the most appropriate program for your child.
Question 10: Will your classes help my child's portfolio for the MCPS Visual Arts Center magnet program?
Yes! Our class is a great way to work on pieces for a portfolio that could be used to apply for any high school art magnet programs in the area. We have had wonderful success stories. Additionally, our class provides students with the essential fine art fundamentals that will ensure students' success in the program. If interested, students must present artwork from the past two years for review.
Question 11: Do you help students with art contests?
At our studio, we have numerous resources and opportunities that we are eager to share with our students. While art competitions are not our primary focus, we are always delighted to support and guide our students if they choose to participate. Above all, our main priority is to foster creativity and a love of art in our young artists. This dedication to their growth and development is reflected in their success and the accomplishments of our students and alumni. We have faith that this legacy of excellence will continue in the years to come.
Question 12: Where do I find a supply list?
Each program has specific art supply requirements. Please check our website for the relevant supply list here.
